First Direct was formed on 1989 by the Midland Bank, one of the "Big 4" banks in the UK. In 1992, it became a part of HSBC Group following the acquisition of Midland Bank. First Direct Uk is a telephone and internet based commercial bank with headquarters in Leeds and has over 1 million customers.
The HSBC Group subsidiary companies also include: HFC Bank; Marbles; Beneficial Finance. Also joint ventures and contracts with more high street names, such as taking over Marks and Spencer Money on a partnership basis in 2004 and the John Lewis Partnership Card contract.
First Direct Life Insurance is via HSBC Life Insurance and was set up originally to mainly help provide life insurance for their personal customers via their online network.
FirstDirect Life products have a multi-channel capability across the Uk & and includes distribution via Direct Sales & Marketing and through the web but not via a Financial Adviser. However, in 2020 they currently no longer offer cover to new customers & refer to HSBC instead.
1st Direct Life Insurance products included just Life insurance cover, decreasing (mortgage protection) or level term assurance & accidental death cover.
