There are several types of Angina
Unstable angina
Unstable angina maybe caused by sudden narrowing of a coronary artery & may mean you're at risk of having a heart attack or stroke. There is often no pattern to your symptoms so they may last for 30 minutes or more. Symptoms of unstable angina often come on after only a small amount of effort or even when resting. Discomfort & pain may develop very quickly, be more severe & frequent than with stable angina.
Stable angina
Stable angina is when you get regular or predictable symptoms that you have had for several months. Symptoms of stable angina may develop gradually over time & you may notice a pattern to your symptoms eg only get symptoms when you do physical activity or if under a lot of stress. Symptoms of stable angina that get worse with physical activity often pass within a few minutes of rest.
Angina and heart attacks
If the coronary artery becomes completely blocked, part of the heart muscle may be starved of oxygen so become damaged - This is a heart attack. The pain is usually more severe & lasts longer than that of angina. If you have angina, your usual treatment may not relieve the pain of a heart attack.
Life Insurance - Who is affected by Angina Attacks ?
Angina may usually start with chest pains or tightness when you're under stress or doing some sort of physical activity. In addition to age and sex, there are a number of factors that increase the risk of attacks. These may include:
Smoking
Family history of heart disease
Diabetes
Obesity
Raised blood pressure
High cholesterol

What do Uk Life Insurance Companies look for - when Underwriting a History of Angina Attacks ?
It would depend on the type of Angina and its severity as mentioned above. For Life Cover most Uk insurers will view each case on an individual basis before making a decision. However the likely decision for all types of cover maybe a very substantial premium rating or for some a decline. Naturally each individual will have personal circumstances and Uk life insurance companies will want to gather as much information as possible before making an underwriting decision.
