LLOYDS TSB LIFE INSURANCE
One of the UK big 4 banks, the origins of Lloyds Bank stretch back to 1765 & the origins of TSB go back to 1810. In 1988 they merged five of its businesses with the Abbey Life Insurance Company to create Lloyds Abbey Life. In 1995, Cheltenham & Gloucester (C&G) joined the Lloyds Bank Group which merged with TSB Group to form LloydsTSB Group plc.
In 2008 Halifax Bank of Scotland agreed to be acquired by Lloyds TSB. The combined group will be one of the largest financial institutions in the banking industry. The deal is still subject to regulatory and shareholder approval.
In the past both Lloyds life insurance & Tsb life insurance were sold as their own life insurance products - Black Horse life insurance & Tsb life insurance based from Andover, Hants. In 2000 Scottish Widows became part of the Lloyds Tsb Group. The Financial Services Authority (FSA) reportedly fined all these Companies many millions for mortgage endowment mis-selling & related deficiencies in its systems and functions.
Rather than sell Lloyds life insurance & Tsb Life insurance today, Scottish Widows Life Insurance is now sold through the Lloyds TSB branch networks. Scottish Widows Life Assurance is one of the best known brand names in the health and life insurance industry. Founded in 1800's and Edinburgh is home to Scotland's first mutual life office.
Today, Scottish Widows product range includes Life cover, decreasing (mortgage protection) or level term assurance, Life with Critical Illness.
