Guardian Assurance Plc was established in 1821. In the mid 1960's, Guardian Assurance moved to Lytham St Annes & in 1968 the company merged with Royal Exchange Assurance to form the Guardian Royal Exchange Group (GRE).
Once a major player in the mortgage protection marketplace, in 1999, the businesses of GRE (which included Guardian Financial Services) were acquired by AEGON UK who also own Scottish Equitable -against competition from Royal Sun Alliance.
In 2006 the Financial Services Authority reportedly fined Guardian Financial £750,000 for mortgage endowment mis-selling in the 1990's and related deficiencies in its systems and functions.
In 2008 their old plans continue to meet the needs of its existing policyholders only & you can still make certain changes to an existing plan. They recommend that you talk to your financial adviser before making any changes where applicable.
