FRIENDS PROVIDENT INSURANCE
Friends Provident has been in operation since 1832. From its creation and until 2001, Friend Provident was a mutual society. Its status as a mutual society was affirmed by the Friends Provident Act of Parliament. In July 2001 it went through a process or demutualisation and has been a member of the FTSE 100 Index ever since.
Friends Provident have acquired these business brands over the years; The Century Life Insurance Co, NM Financial Management Group (once part of National Mutual Life Association of Australasia Limited), London & Manchester Assurance Group and Foreign & Colonial.
The UK Life and Pensions business markets a range of Friends Providents Life cover, decreasing (mortgage protection) or level term assurance, Life with Critical Illness, Children's Critical Illness, Income Protection products for individual customers and corporate clients like Greenbee throughout the UK.
In 2007, the proposed merger of Friend Provident Uk & Resolution was formally announced to create Friends Financial Group plc - a new company in the Life Insurance Providers and Asset Management industries. The merger however never went ahead as the Pearl Group merged with them instead in 2008. In 2009 talks were re-opened again & were finally agreed subject to regulatory agreement. In 2010 Axa agrees to sell its life assurance arm to Resolution, be held by Friends Provident & rename it Friends Life.
