CHURCHILL LIFE INSURANCE Churchill Insurance launched in 1989 as one of the UK's first direct motor insurers offering cover via phone & web. In 1990, they started selling home insurance and, over the years, have extended services to offer vehicle insurance, income protection insurance, travel insurance, pet insurance & breakdown cover. In 2003, Churchill was acquired by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and now forms part of the RBS Insurance division. The RBS Group is the largest banking group in Scotland, the 2nd largest in the UK and Europe, the 5th largest in the world by market capitalisation and currently in the top  15th largest company in the world according to Forbes Global 2000. The RBS Group main subsidiary companies include: National Westminster Bank; Ulster Bank; Drummonds and Coutts & Co. Insurance companies also include Direct Line, Privilege, Churchil Insurance & NIG. In 2000 the bank reportedly transferred National Westminster Life Assurance Limited to RBS Life Investments Limited, effectively establishing the business as a joint venture with Norwich Union.  Churchill do not currently offer life products such as Life insurance cover, mortgage protection or Critical Illness but mainly Income Protection and Un-Employment cover. Churchill Income Protection is a basic accident sickness & unemployment insurance plan and underwritten by UK Insurance Limited.
