AIG Life Uk was a trading style of American Life Insurance Company (ALICO), formed in 1921 and originally based in Shanghai, China of what would later become American International Group, Inc. (AIG). After World War II, it turned its sights towards Europe & the rest of the world, offering life and accident and health insurance to the local nationals. In 1951, Asia Life changed its name to American Life Insurance Company.           Chartis Direct is a trading name of UNAT Direct, which is a member company of Chartis. Today, Chartis Group conducts business in over 50 countries and territories around the world, operating exclusively outside the United States. In recent years, ALICO & AIG, now Chartis, expanded its presence in the Uk which continues to grow and provides a strong base on which to develop and offer products to customers via its Uk office operation in Croydon. AIG were also the shirt sponsors of Manchester United. In 2008 AIG during credit crisis required $85 billion refinancing from US Federal reserve. Due to this, in 2009 they changed their name to Chartis Insurance Uk Ltd part of the Chartis Insurance Group. In 2010 Alico was sold to Metlife. Chartis Direct offer various protection policies including over 50 + life cover, Business Employee Protection, basic Critical Illness plans like Wellwoman cancer cover & various Well Woman plans + accident & sickness policies. Chartis Life in the 2010's had a multi-product & channel capability across the UK. In the UK its product range includes distribution via Media, Web plus its own sales force, brokers or via 3rd party plans like Pax life insurance.
