BANK OF SCOTLAND LIFE INSURANCE
The Bank of Scotland plc is based in Edinburgh, Scotland with a history dating to the 17th century. Since 2001 the Bank of Scotland has formed part of HBOS plc, following a merger with the Halifax Group (formerly the Halifax Building Society). The new group was named Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) with headquarters in Edinburgh, but retaining both Halifax and the Bank of Scotland as brand names.
The Bank also owns Intelligent Finance plus they have a 50% stake in Sainsbury's Finance Bank - the other 50% being owned by J Sainsbury plc.
In 2008 due to the recession, HBOS voted to be taken over by Lloyds Tsb Group. Bank of Scotland Life Insurance was set up to help provide life insurance for their customers via their branch network & now as part of Lloyds TSB they use Scottish Widows. Bank of Scotland Life Assurance Total Mortgage Protection Plan [TMPP] is via St Andrew's Life Assurance which is a specialist protection provider - includes Life cover, decreasing (mortgage protection) or level term assurance, Life with Critical Illness & accident sickness and redundancy cover.
