ABBEY NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE
Abbey National Life Insurance was set up to help provide life insurance for their customers via their branch network. The Alliance & Leicester was tied to Friends Provident for endowment sales between 1987 & 1992 before it stopped selling endowment mortgages as the mortgage market slowly moved from endowments to repayment mortgages.
During the 1990's & early 2000's this worked well until due to market conditions in 2006 they sold their entire operation to Phoenix Life Insurance, the largest specialist manager of in-force or closed UK life funds; Formerely known as Resolution Life they integrated in 2004 the former Royal & SunAlliance UK life business and Swiss Life (UK) plc into one group called Phoenix Life Group (Phoenix). They also acquired the Life Operations of Century Life & Allianz Cornhill (Cornhill) to transfer Cornhill policyholders in 2005.
Resolution Life plc therefore acquired the life businesses of Abbey National plc & Scottish Provident & also Britannic Assurance which were re-named Phoenix Life Assurance Limited. In 2009 Abbey National Life Insurance plans continue to help meet the needs and circumstances of its existing policyholders only & you can still make certain changes to an existing plan or get endowment maturity values via Phoenix help team or talk to your financial adviser.
Abbey National Personal protection plan via Phoenix Life Assurance or Scottish Provident includes Life cover, decreasing (mortgage protection) or level term assurance, Life with Critical Illness and Income Protection.
